Successful Transition for the New Year Ahead

Term 4 is the time to start planning for the year ahead. From careful consideration of who the teacher is, to preparing the child for what they will encounter (new class, new school, new daily routine, etc), a lot of thought and planning needs to go in to ensuring a successful transition not only for the child on the autism spectrum, but for their teacher, the other children in their class, and for their parents.

There are many people involved in the transition – student, parents, teachers, wider staff and community. The key to a successful transition is not to overwhelm all of those involved.

An important part of transition is sharing information and strategies. Many students have HUGE files of information, so I highly recommend you do a one page summary as a quick reference for all staff. Getting parents and current staff to fill in this quick reference together can be extremely helpful as often you see different behaviours and strategies that work.

Essential Tip Sheets to help with the Transistion - these are mention & explain in the YouTube Video

Tip Sheet - Transistion Ezine (contains 10 Common Causes of Behaviour Meltdown & Ten Common Causes of Sensory Meltdown)

Tip Sheet - Summary Profile of Student

Tip Sheet - Programming for Students with an ASD - Student Profile for Transistion
